A Favorite Hole-in-the-Wall in Grayton Beach
Whether it’s the outdoor deck with a peaceful pond or the eclectic indoor atmosphere, menu favorites or the full bar, there is something for everyone at Hurricane Oyster Bar and Grill in Grayton Beach.
As I sat on the restaurant deck with the sound of water trickling out of the pond fountain in the background, I talked to David Phillips, the General Manager at the Hurricane Oyster Bar and Grill. I could sense his enthusiasm and love for his job, his employees and customers. I easily understood why this restaurant on 30A is a favorite locals’ hangout and celebrating its tenth year in Grayton Beach. Located at 37 Logan Lane, the restaurant’s hours, during the high season, are from 11 am to 10 pm.
Dedicated to his career in the restaurant industry, David has been with the Hurricane Oyster Bar and Grill for over 10 years. He says he has worked hard to create a laid-back atmosphere where people can come to eat great food and relax after a day at the beach or just hang out and have fun.
Whether you are a local or vacationing here for the week, the welcoming atmosphere and fantastic food are something to celebrate and experience. Sitting inside, you may notice the many dollar bills on the wall. I asked David about this. He said that when they first opened, one of their oyster shuckers left a dollar on the wall. Since then, it has become a signature for customers visiting the restaurant to leave a dollar on the wall. Whether they write their name on the dollar bill or want to commemorate a special event such as their wedding, each dollar bill is hung with care and meaning. David said that some customers even return to the restaurant during future vacations to eat, having fun finding the dollar bill that they previously hung on the wall.
The menu is expansive, with favorites like fried oyster nachos, fish tacos, raw oysters or tuna dip. As an added bonus, in addition to offering a full menu on Sundays, Hurricane Oyster Bar and Grill offers a Sunday Funday Brunch that includes items like Low Country Biscuits and Gravy or Grits & Grillades, which is braised pot roast over gouda cheese grits topped with debris gravy, fried onions and avocados, then drizzled with chipotle cream. Perhaps you might like the Crab Cakes New Orleans, which is a pan-seared crab cake topped with a creole white wine and butter sauce, served over decadent lobster risotto.
The restaurant offers a full bar, with Happy Hour every day from 3 to 6, during which they offer specials like $2.00 domestic drafts. View the menu here for more Happy Hour specials. In addition, their Sunday Funday menu boasts alcoholic beverages like Build Your Own Bloody Mary, made with a house Bloody Mary Mix, freshly squeezed lemon, lime, Tabasco and dressed with pickled okra, green beans & green olives.
During your vacation, plan a fabulous meal at Hurricane Oyster Bar and Grill, and remember to mark the event by leaving your dollar bill on the wall!
