30A Visitors Guide to Blue Mountain Beach, FL
Blue Mountain Beach is conveniently located on the west end of the 30A corridor and is just a short drive from Destin, FL. It’s a laid-back 30A town that’s within biking distance of Grayton Beach, Gulf Place and Dune Allen Beach. The highest recorded land elevation along all of Florida’s Gulf coast is found in Blue Mountain Beach which results in an abundance of stunning ocean views and breathtaking sunsets.
It is part of greater Santa Rosa Beach and is home to two rare coastal dunes lakes (Draper Lake and Big Redfish Lake), great restaurants, shops, a one-of-a-kind gas station and so much more. All of the 30A communities are amazing but the natural beauty and chill local vibe of Blue Mountain Beach is unmatched in my opinion. In this guide to Blue Mountain Beach, FL I’ll highlight the best public beach access points, places to eat, shop, workout, rent and more so let’s get started…
Blue Mountain Beach, FL Public Beach Access Points
Blue Mountain Beach has some of the best public beach access points on 30A. In fact, it is one of the only SoWal communities that has 2 Regional beach access spots which is cool. Some of the benefits of regional beach access (versus Neighborhood Beach Access) include bathrooms, parking, showers and lifeguards on duty during the busy season. Below are the Blue Mountain Beach, FL public Gulf access points from east to west…
Blue Lake Road 33 – A natural sandy path leads to a normal amount of steps down to the beach at Blue Lake Road Access number 33.
Blue Lake Road Beach Access 33 Address: 726 Blue Mountain Rd, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459
Sea Grade Road 34 – This is a South Walton Neighborhood Beach Access meaning no bathrooms or lifeguards on duty. You’ll find an average number of steps (compared to all other SoWal access points) down to the sand at Sea Grade Road Access #34.
Sea Grade Road 34 Address: 590 Blue Mountain Rd, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459
Gulf Point Road Beach Access 35 – You will find parking for Golf Carts and bikes at this 30A Neighborhood Public Beach Access point. However, there are no bathrooms or lifeguards on duty. The length of the boardwalk and number of steps to navigate is about average for South Walton beach access points.
Gulf Point Road Beach Access 35 Address: 446 Blue Mountain Rd, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459
Blue Mountain Beach Regional Beach Access 36 – You’ll find parking, bathrooms, outdoor showers, benches, a lifeguard stand and breathtaking ocean views at Blue Mountain Beach Regional Access #36. It is one of my favorite South Walton regional beach access points. As an added bonus, this Gulf of Mexico access is just a few blocks away from Blue Mountain Beach Creamery which is beloved by kids and adults alike.
Blue Mountain Regional Beach Access 36 Address: 2365 South Scenic Highway 83, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

Blue Mountain Beach Restaurants
The entire 30A corridor is loaded with great places to eat, drink and be merry. Some of my favorite restaurants on 30A are located in Blue Mountain Beach and they are listed below…
Basmati’s – This is one of the few 30A restaurants that specializes in Asian cuisine and man do they do a great job! With over 86 awesome Google Reviews as well as a boatload on Facebook, you can feel confident you’ll get a great meal at Basmati’s in Blue Mountain Beach. The atmosphere at Basmati’s is extremely relaxing as it overlooks Draper Lake, one of the rare 30A coast dune lakes.
Blue Moutain Beach Creamery – The best ice cream and donuts on the west end of 30A is what you’ll find at Blue Mountain Beach Creamery. It’s been around for a while and has become a favorite sweet spot among 30A locals and visitors alike. It is perfectly located at the intersection of Highway 83 and 30A and is just a short walk from Blue Mountain Regional Beach Access #36. Please note that Blue Mountain Beach Creamery is a Cash Only hot spot so make sure to hit up the ATM before going.
Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub – At this classic Irish American Pub you’ll find cold beer, full bar, TVs, fish mounts and fantastic food. Seriously, everything I’ve eaten at Johnny McTighe’s in Blue Mountain Beach has been nothing short of delicious. If you like pizza, go to Johnny McTighe’s and you will thank me later. It’s located next door to Redds Fueling Station.
Local Catch – If you try to imagine an old-school Florida bar and grill it would probably look something like Local Catch. Located on the west end of Blue Mountain Beach, Local Catch is in my top 5 best restaurants on 30A for 3 reasons… First, the drinks are made in real, full-size tumbler cocktail glasses and the bartenders give a generous pour. Second, everything on their food menu is way above average and reasonably priced by 30A standards. Third, the atmosphere has that genuine old Florida feel that puts me at ease and makes me want to have a couple more cocktails.
Red Fish Taco – A new 30A food spot, Red Fish Taco is located in Redfish Village next to Trebeache. It’s a welcome addition to the South Walton restaurant scene in my opinion because it’s one of the few places you can find good food at a reasonable price. If you like Mexican food with a Gulf Coast twist you will most likely enjoy Red Fish Taco.
Trebeache – Located in the front of Redfish Village next to the water tower, Trebeache is a fantastic seafood restaurant with something on the menu for everyone. It’s owned and operated by the same group that runs Stinky’s Fish Camp, The Lake Place and Trenasse so you know it’s got to be great! Trebeache also has one of the best Happy Hours on 30A as it runs from 5:00 – 6:00 daily and features deals on appetizers, half price beers, wines and $5 martinis.

Blue Mountain Beach Shops
One thing Blue Mountain Beach is not super well known for yet is shopping. However, that is changing as new developments are popping up all over the neighborhood and with that will come more great shopping opportunities for sure. Gulf Place neighbors Blue Mountain Beach to the west and there you will find some of the best shops on 30A. Below are some of the top places to spend money in Blue Mountain Beach, FL…
Christina D Swim + Resort – A 30A Florida swimwear boutique with something for every type of woman. If you forgot your bikini no worries, just head over to Christina D and they will hook you up.
For the Health of It – The best organic store in South Walton is how I would describe “For the Health of It” in Blue Mountain Beach. They carry all kinds of organic food products, supplements, they have an awesome juice bar and offer massage therapy services. They are located in High Point Shopping Center next to Big Daddy Bike Shop.
Lola’s on 30A – You’re sure to find something special for your SoWal home at Lola’s on 30A in Blue Mountain Beach. It’s a family owned interiors boutique that has new and old items guaranteed to make your home beautiful.
Optikk 30A – One of the premier optical boutiques in South Walton County is how I would describe Optikk 30A. Located in Redfish Village, they sell fashionable eyewear and offer eye examination services. If you’re vacationing on 30A and forgot your contacts or need more, head over to Optikk 30A in Blue Mountain Beach.
Store Aloha – The place to find essential beach towels and other gear such as umbrellas, skimboards, bags, backpack chairs, coolers, toys and much more. You’ll also find official 30A.com gear sold at Store Aloha in Blue Mountain Beach.
Blue Mountain Beach Bike Rentals
The best way to get around Blue Mountain Beach or any 30A community for that matter is via bike. The Timpoochee Trail (a.k.a 30A Bike Path) runs right through Blue Mountain Beach and offers easy access to neighboring communities such as Grayton Beach to the east and Gulf Place Town Center / Dune Allen Beach to the west. Below are my two favorite places to rent all types of bikes in Blue Mountain Beach…
Big Daddy’s Bike Shop – Located in the High Point Shopping Center next door to “For The Health Of It” is where you’ll find Big Daddy’s Bike Shop. In addition to renting all types of beach cruiser bikes, Big Daddy’s sells bike parts, accessories, offers repair services and more. They are one of the original bike rental companies on 30A having been founded back in 1998 and they have a huge selection of bike apparel available.
Jongle Beach – More than just a bike rental, Jongle is a full-service beach company. Due to their extremely friendly customer service, fair rental rates and quality bikes, Jongle Beach is on my list of the Top 5 Bike Rental Companies on 30A.
Blue Mountain Beach, FL Fitness Options
Keeping in shape physically and mentally is easy to do while staying in Blue Mountain Beach. SoFitCo Studios offers daily group classes for those people that are into all types of Yoga, PIYO, and dancing. They have a bunch of really friendly trainers and it’s home to Laura Bailey Yoga who is regarded as one of the best in the craft.

Another great option for those looking to break a sweat in Blue Mountain Beach is Sand Dunes Strenght & Conditioning. It’s owned by Evan Chelini and he’s truly a masterful trainer. He specializes in proper human movement and has brilliant, custom fitness solutions for people of all body types. Having played high-level sports for many years, I can honestly say Evan is one of the best strength coaches I’ve ever worked with. You’ll find Sand Dunes Strenght & Conditioning off of Highway 83 in Blue Mountain Beach.

Blue Mountain Beach Rentals
In regards to Blue Mountain Beach rentals, vacationers have many great options to choose from. The overall vibe in Blue Mountain Beach and pretty much the entire west end of 30A is more laid back than the east end. The west end of the 30A corridor is all about toes in the water with cold beers in hand. Blue Mountain Beach as a community is not nearly as large as say a Seagrove Beach so no matter where you stay, you’ll be close to the Gulf.
Adagio and Bella Vita are two popular places to stay in Blue Mountain Beach and both are Gulf front gated complexes. Both are fantastic 30A rental options and you really can’t go wrong with either. They have multiple community pools and easy access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Adagio is a larger private community and probably has a few more amenities than Bella Vita but with size comes longer walks to the sandy beach. Bella Vita is more intimate, has great amenities and stunning Gulf views from every unit. One thing I really like about Bella Vita in Blue Mountain Beach is that it has a Gulf front grilling deck. It features 2 high-end gas grills, tables and is the perfect place to cook your catch of the day while watching the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
If you’re interested in booking a vacation rental in Blue Mountain Beach, my recommendation would be to check out local listing sites such as Rent 30A and Emerald Coast By Owner. Both sites have a great selection of Blue Mountain Beach and South Walton rental properties and unlike VRBO they Do Not charge booking fees. So you’ll get more custom / local service and you’ll actually save money on your Blue Mountain Beach vacation rental when you use a Rent30A.com or ECBYO.com.
Below is a quick video we shot on the beach at Bella Vita this past winter…
Forest Lakes is where 30A Locals Live
Blue Mountain Beach is where many year-round, 30A locals call home. One of my favorite neighborhoods in Blue Mountain Beach is Forest Lakes. It’s a gated 30A neighborhood with a huge community pool that features an upstairs entertainment area equipped with a full outdoor kitchen, fireplace and more. Bountiful Bass ponds are found throughout Forest Lakes as are beautiful green spaces. Forest Lakes is just a 5-iron from Draper Lake and it is one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods on 30A.
Below is a quick video montage of Forest Lakes…
