30A Winter Beach Party
It was a Saturday in February that will be remembered for a long time by all the 30A locals in attendance. Specifically, it was February 11, 2017, and it was 78 degrees and sunny on Seagrove Beach! 2017 has been one of the best winters in recent memory here in the Florida Panhandle. It seems like week after week it’s sunny and in the 70’s so hopefully that will continue through spring break. Anyway, back to this specific winter day on the beaches of 30A FL. We were incredibly fortunate to spend the weekend at an amazing Gulf Front house on Chivas Lane that would be the staging ground for all the fun that was to be had that beautiful Saturday…
Breakfast at a Gulf Front 30A Vacation House
It started early with a huge breakfast served via chef Trevor D which consisted of sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy and delicious Mimosas to wash it all down. The Gulf views from the kitchen and main living area were heart stopping and the mood was light as excitement was in the air for the fun that was to soon come. After breakfast, everyone proceeded to change into their beach attire. The only bad thing about winter on the water is that most people are still carrying their Christmas weight gain which typically results in some initial anxiety. Thankfully, that short-term terror of taking your shirt off for the first time in months quickly goes away after the first cold beverage is consumed on the sugar white sand beach.
Soaking in the 30A Florida Sun
After breakfast, our friends from Live Well 30A showed up with beach chairs, kayaks, paddle boards, Cornhole and more! They had everything set up in no time so we moved the party down to the water which was surprisingly warm for the middle of February 2017. We all took turns testing our skills or lack thereof on the stand-up paddle boards. Did I mention the water was thankfully warm:) Also, the kayaks were a yuuuge hit as the Gulf was fairly calm (Dylan might disagree) once you made it past the first and second sandbar. Some 30A lifers brought their surf fishing gear so we had lines in the water all day and Saxon landed a few nice pompano that would eventually end up on the grill!
30A Style Beach Bonfire and Shrimp Boil
Time fly’s when you’re having fun and before we knew it, Live Well 30A was setting up our beach bonfire and shrimp boil. Now for those that have not yet experienced beach fires, I highly recommend setting one up next time you’re down here on 30A. Bonfires are thoroughly enjoyed by adults and kids alike and Live Well has mastered the trade. The kids had fun shooting bags and roasting s’mores while the adults enjoyed their beverage of choice. The boil was loaded with potatoes, fresh jumbo Gulf shrimp and corn on the cob. Our party consisted of at least 21 people and there was more than enough delicious food to go around. After dinner on the beach, everyone kicked back in their chairs and enjoyed the warm fire, cold drinks and camaraderie. Yesss Sirrr.. it was a February day that will be remembered indeed!
