My Favorite Things To Do in Alys Beach with Kids
Alys Beach offers a bunch of fun things for parents to do with their kids. Ours are still young so they fit nicely in a double BOB stroller. The Amphitheatre is usually our first stop when we hit Aly Beach. The Alys Beach Amphitheatre is similar to the famous one in Seaside in that it’s a large bowl-shaped green and is a great 30A live music venue during the summer. It also doubles as a fantastic place for kids to run around, roll around and just have fun.
Mornings are our favorite time at the Alys Beach Amphitheatre because we like to hit up Charlie’s Donuts before they sell out. During the 30A summer season Charly sells out quickly and when they’re gone for the day, they’re gone! My boys love to grab a sprinkle donut and enjoy it at one of the picnic tables or a shady spot on the green.
The Alys Beach Splash Pad is one of the Best on 30A
We almost never leave the Amphitheatre before playing on the Splash Pad! The Alys Beach splash pad runs all day and has a variety of fountains making it a must visit if you are in town with kids. Below is a quick video of our son having fun at the Alys Beach splash pad…
Strolling Along the Alys Beach Nature Trail
Alys Beach is home to one of my favorite nature trails along the 30A corridor. It’s a 20-acre nature preserve with more than 1800 ft of trails and is tucked away on the far north end of Alys Beach. The length of the trail is very manageable for children to walk or run which makes it interactive for even the smallest hikers.
A forest of Slash Pines, Cypress trees and the sound of a stream flowing East into Lake Powell greets folks at the beginning of the Alys Beach Nature Trail. After making your way through the forest you’ll hit the elevated boardwalk which allows people to observe and not disturb the surrounding habitats.
If your children are like mine, they will make you stop more than a few times along the hike because there are so many cool things to see. Just make sure to keep your eyes open for the carnivorous pitcher plants that use their leaves to catch and eat insects! The Alys Beach Nature Trail is the perfect escape from the sun and is a lot of fun for kids and adults alike.
Fonville Park is Tops on 30A
Like all of the Alys Beach architecture, Fonville Park was thoughtfully designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and functional. From the slide built into the turf-covered hill to the music makers to the climbing wall, your children will love exploring this special place. As a mom and the laundress for my family, my favorite aspect of Fonville Park is that it’s completely covered in artificial turf which means no grass stains!
When you visit Fonville Park don’t forget to pack your sunscreen, a hat and water because it does get full sun the majority of the day. If you happen to forget a cold beverage or snack don’t worry because the park is next to Fonville Press, a great coffee shop and now full-service restaurant. You can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner at the adjacent Fonville Press while your kids play.
My husband and I love to go to this park around sunset and have a couple adult drinks while the boys run wild. A park that serves craft beer and wine… Yes, please!
If you happen to make it to Fonville Park late afternoon, I recommend walking to the top of the hill. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch the sun casting beautiful pink glows across the all-white Alys Beach buildings. Just make sure to have your phone handy as it makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.
