Visitors Guide to Seagrove Beach an Original 30A Community
Seagrove Beach is one of the original 30A communities and is home to old oak trees, coastal dune lakes, white sand beaches and an awesome state park. In addition, Seagrove has some of the best shops, public beach access points, restaurants and the only high-rise building on 30A. Pretty much centrally located along the 30A corridor, Seagrove is a popular South Walton vacation destination as it sits between Seaside to the west and WaterSound Beach to the east.
At just about 2 miles in length, the actual scope of Seagrove Beach is larger than most all other 30A communities. Unlike Rosemary Beach and Seaside, Seagrove Beach is not a master planned community. It’s more of a laid-back mix of old and new Florida. In Seagrove, you’ll find classic beach homes built many years ago alongside brand new modern properties. Seagrove Beach is truly a diverse mix of old and new, busy and tranquil, fancy and casual all in one.
In this 30A guide to Seagrove Beach, we’ll talk about the best restaurants, shops, rental strategies and beach access points but let’s start by discussing the two main sections of this Emerald Coast community.
Different Parts of 30A Seagrove Beach
Seagrove Beach is so large compared to other 30A communities that I think it’s best for us to break it down into two main sections, east, and west. The east end of Seagrove is more nature based and is home to Deer Lake State Park and Eastern Lake which are two natural jewels of 30A Florida. Eastern Lake is accessible to the public via ‘Eastern Lake Park’ which is located off of Lakewood Drive on the south side of Scenic 30A.
It’s a small park with a boat launch that offers public access to the coastal dune lake and is a great place to launch a kayak or SUP. For those looking to catch Redfish and Speckled Trout Eastern Lake is full of them. Just make sure to hit up Yellowfin Ocean Sports which is right down the road as they will have all your bait and tackle supplies.
The west end of Seagrove Beach is where you’ll find the majority of the restaurants, shops and beach access points all within walking distance. Seagrove west feels more like you’re in the middle of the action, the vibe is more like you’re in a bustling little city on the beach. Having said that, it’s not accurate to say that all of west Seagrove is busy as you can find rentals on the north side of 30A that are tucked away.
Seagrove Beach Restaurants
You’ll find some of the best restaurants on 30A in Seagrove Beach including my personal favorite, Angelina’s Pizzeria & Pasta. In the fall, the rooftop bar at Whiskey Bravo is one of the best places to watch football in all of South Walton. Whiskey Bravo is the complete package as their food and drink are truly some of the best on 30A. Whiskey Bravo is fine dining quality food with a casual, coastal feel and is the perfect place for date night with your significant other.

Cafe 30A – One of the original Seagrove Beach restaurants, Cafe 30A is coastal fine dining at its best. You’ll find something for everyone on the menu and their martinis are sure to get you rolling. The restaurant is massive in size compared to other 30A establishments so even when it looks packed, you’ll most likely still be able to get a table.

Dine indoors or out on their porch which overlooks Eastern Lake. Old Florida Fish House has been around since 2005 and is the place to go for great food, drinks, atmosphere and service.
Seagrove Village Market – One of the oldest restaurants on 30A, Seagrove Village Market was recently rebuilt at the same location off of County Highway 395 South. It is one of the best lunch spots on 30A and is a must try if you’ve never been.
Steamboat Grill – This Seagrove Beach restaurant is a casual bar and grill. Steamboat Grill has really good food and an awesome Happy Hour which runs from 3 to 6 pm daily.
Surfing Deer – Elegant, upscale restaurant on the corner of Hwy 395 and 30A in Seagrove Beach. Located next to Seagrove Village Market, Surfing Deer is a relatively new addition to the 30A restaurant scene. With hundreds of 5-star reviews on Google and Facebook, it’s safe to say that Surfing Deer is a big-time success.
The Perfect Pig – I would describe The Perfect Pig as a restaurant that does breakfast, lunch and dinner great. They have multiple locations but The Perfect Pig in Seagrove Beach is a cafe style restaurant best known for its amazing breakfast and lunch. No one on 30A does breakfast better than the Perfect Pig.

Seagrove Beach Rentals
For those folks looking to rent in Seagrove Beach, you should start your search by deciding on which part of the community best fits your needs. If you want to be in the center of the action and within biking distance to Seaside, then you’ll want to rent on the west end of Seagrove Beach. Staying in west Seagrove Beach is a great way to have easy access to Seaside without busting your budget. If you’re looking for more peace and serenity you’ll want to rent on the east end of this original 30A community.
After deciding on the segment of Seagrove you’d like to stay in, the next step is to determine proximity to the beach. As a general rule of thumb, the closer you are to the Gulf, the higher the rental rate will be. The nice thing about Seagrove Beach is that you’ll find a bunch of vacation rentals on both the north and south side of 30A providing options for vacation budgets of all sizes.
If you’re working on a tight budget there are a plethora of vacation rental options on the north side of 30A in Seagrove Beach that are affordable relative to other parts of the community and South Walton in general. On the flip side, if you’re looking for a Gulf front rental in Seagrove you’ll surely be able to find one of those as well. The sheer size of the community along with all the development over the past few years means there are plenty of oceanfront rentals available. Couple that with the fact that Seagrove Beach is not a master planned community such as Alys Beach, but instead is made up of independent owners willing to let the free market determine the 30A Gulf front rental rates.
A major positive is that no matter where you stay in Seagrove, access to the beach is easy due to a large number of South Walton public beach access points throughout. Many other 30A communities are limited in terms of public beach access but that is not the case with Seagrove which is fantastic. Also, Seagrove Beach does not restrict golf cart rentals as far as I know which is also really cool.

Important Notes Pertaining to 30A Seagrove Beach
Below are some important things to know about Seagrove Beach…
- If you need to see a doctor during your stay on 30A, head over to Doc Smiley’s Urgent Care in Seagrove Beach. Doc Smiley’s is located on the north side of 30A at 43 Cassine Way, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459
- The Timpoochee Trail (a.k.a. 30A bike path) is only on one side of Scenic 30A throughout the entire length of the community. During the spring and summer months, the 30A bike trail gets really busy and it is not super wide so take caution when using the trail especially if you have young kids.
- Seagrove Beach continues to expand in regards to new real-estate developments which seem to keep getting bigger in scale. One of the most recent major projects is ‘Thirty-One on 30A’ located across from the Tom Thumb gas station in Seagrove Beach. According to their website, 31on30a.com, it’s going to be a modern luxury condo complex on the Gulf and is slated to be complete in Spring 2018.
- Much work has been done to expand the South County Highway 395 and 30A intersection which is a major plus. The road expansion at the intersection will greatly relieve the traffic bottlenecks that have happened there all too often in the past.
- If you vacation in Seagrove Beach and are interested in doing a beach bonfire, Santa Clara Regional Access is where I recommend. For the most part, South Walton County requires that beach bonfires take place at public access points and Santa Clara Regional Access #17 is the perfect spot mainly because of the bathrooms and ramp.
- For those looking to rent in Seagrove Beach or anywhere on 30A please note that the busiest weeks in any given calendar year are usually Atlanta’s spring break week, Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July week, labor day, fall break and Christmas week. You’ll want to book well in advance if your vacation falls during those time periods. If not, you should be able to wait and get great last minute deals on 30A vacation rentals.
