Amazing REAL Homemade Ice Cream and Candy Made On-Site!!!
Trying a new ice cream place is always an adventure. Pecan Jacks Ice Creamery and Candy Kitchen is a true one-of-a-kind experience on 30A. Located at 4368 W County Highway 30A near Gulf Place, the friendly owners and staff can be found talking jovially to each customer, encouraging sample tasting, answering questions and making suggestions from 12p to 9p daily. Veronica “Ronnie” and Tim Wyatt, the owners, talked passionately about their craft as we sat outside the store during a recent hot summer day.
Traveling on vacations in the south over the years, Ronnie and Tim would try the local pralines. Ronnie said that when they would find a type of praline they liked, it was often difficult to order them online when they returned to their home in Richmond, Virginia. So in 2010, they decided to start making pralines in their Home-certified kitchen and selling them at festivals and through their website. The success of a holiday store in 2012 led them to open a permanent store in the Historic District of Downtown Richmond, Virginia. Ronnie told me that when they designed their logo in 2010, it was created with the idea that they would one day move here and have a second Pecan Jacks location on 30A. Now with two successful stores to operate, Ronnie and Tim still continue to attend festivals and candy conventions.
The 30A store menu is expansive and includes homemade regular and liquor-infused ice cream. Ronnie and Tim appreciate customer feedback, as they are constantly testing new flavors. A few current flavors include death by chocolate, banana pudding, snickers, blueberry lemon cheesecake, chocolate raspberry and key lime pie. One of my favorites is oreo. They begin making the oreo with a vanilla base, then add the Oreos. The machine mixes the ingredients so well that the oreo ice cream is very smooth and creamy.
In addition to homemade ice cream, they also make on-site southern and liquor infused pralines and gourmet pecan, cashew and pistachio brittle. They also offer case candies such as chocolates, truffles and sea salt caramels, some of which are hand-dipped on site. Additionally, you can choose sweets like gummy bears, chocolates and taffy by the pound.
Ronnie and Tim maintain high-quality standards for all of the ice cream and candy they make on-site. Candy that is made off-site from other vendors is hand-picked and tasted by them to make sure the quality and taste match their standards before being sold in their store. Says Ronnie, “We are known for recreating southern classic candies with a new exciting twist, like the liquor infused pralines and ice creams. We specialize in the craft of candy and ice cream making as well as creating an exceptional customer experience when you enter our store. We are an authentic functioning kitchen, we love our customers and we love to make you happy with the special attention you deserve and samples of our products.”
Whether you are spending the day at the Ed Waline Beach Access, which is across the street from Pecan Jacks, renting a vacation home in Dune Allen or taking the 30A trolley from 30Avenue to Gulf Place, Pecan Jacks is a must try during your vacation stay.
