30A Prime Interview with “Peaceful Vibes Massage Company”
It was a sweltering August day on the Choctawhatchee Bay when we met with Kayla Darnell to discuss her unique 30A based business. Kayla is the owner/operator of Peaceful Vibes Massage Company. Her business is completely mobile making it easily accessible to South Walton locals and visitors alike. Kayla is an ambitious woman who is passionate about health and making sure people feel their best, but I was curious why she decided to be a mobile massage service as opposed to a traditional brick and mortar operation?
Before starting Peaceful Vibes Massage Company Kayla worked at a fitness center in SoWal. She has always been into healthy living and while working there she noted that massage therapists would visit the gym two days a week to work on patients. Kayla was impressed with the results people were seeing from the treatment so she talked to a few therapist to learn more about the trade. The experts she spoke with encouraged her to go through the training necessary to become a massage therapist. Kayla figured that even if she didn’t start her own massage business, she would have gained a great deal of knowledge that could be used for her own gain.
Kayla decided at that moment she would enroll in massage therapy school and get certified. She was ready for a challenge and that’s exactly what she got. In all, it was more than 8 months of intense training and Kayla admitted that if she had known how much work would go into it she may not have taken the classes.
She told me,” … I would have been too intimidated and overwhelmed beforehand had I known what was involved before committing to it. I’m glad I took the classes though.”
She explained that the courses are similar to that of a nursing degree, but without the pharmaceutical information. You must know anatomy, physiology and all the techniques to release pressure points and/or disease. It’s more homeopathic than conventional medicine, but that’s part of massage therapy’s beauty. It heals you like conventional medicine but gives you an alternative if conventional medicine isn’t working for you.
Kayla’s massage therapy career began working in a chiropractic office. After a while, she decided to go out on her own so she could reach more people in a better setting. She liked the idea of a mobile massage business model because it’s unique and people vacationing want to be in their luxury rentals for as long as possible. As Kayla put it… “They did pay to be in that atmosphere after all”. She explained how it’s more relaxing to get a massage where you are comfortable and the environment is more “zen”. Kayla chose the name Peaceful Vibes Massage Company because that’s what she wants to bring to people in their environment.
Think about it this way, you’re on vacation and rented a beautiful beach house for the week. You call up Kayla to get a massage and she sets up in an area with Gulf views. She cracks the lanai door or the window and as you are getting a massage you can hear the waves crash onto the beach.
Kayla tells me there is nothing better for healing or for enjoyment. She specializes in deep tissue massages but tends to work on her client’s needs. Someone may think they need a deep tissue massage, but they would be better suited to a Swedish massage. Kayla will do what the client needs with their permission of course. That’s always a given.
During our interview, Kayla shared a success story with me. She told me about a lady who had so much chronic pain you couldn’t touch her without it resulting in screaming. The woman was on dozens of pain medications so a member of her family unknowingly scheduled an appointment for her with Kayla as a last ditch effort to relieve pain. When Kayla showed up for the appointment, the woman was reluctant and stated she had the right to kick, punch or scream at her. Kayla wasn’t intimidated and calmly explained that she was there to help and wouldn’t do anything she couldn’t handle.
Kayla put feather light pressure on her during the first massage. She used a little more pressure in the second appointment and then built it up with each visit. Today the woman is off most synthetic medications altogether. Her massage therapy sessions with Kayla have done wonders for her overall health.
Kayla recently added a new technique called cupping to her repertoire. It became extremely popular after the last summer Olympic games in Brazil. The swimmers had marks all down their backs from cupping. It’s where you take little silicon cups and suction up the skin. This reduces your metabolic waste and gets your circulation going.
It’s great for everyone from athletes to sedentary people. Either way, Kayla stands behind cupping and says that it really helps you feel rejuvenated. It is also an ideal energy booster. Who doesn’t need more energy?
Setting an Appointment with Peaceful Vibes Massage Company
As our interview came to an end, I wanted to know how I could get in touch with her for a massage. I had never had one before and she mentioned that she loves to give people their first massage. She also gave me some sound advice.
“It’s important to start out slow, and not go with a deep tissue for your first time,” Kayla said.
The best way to get in touch with her is via a phone call or a text. Her number is 850-333-0043, but you can also get a hold of her via email. Although keep in mind email will be a longer wait to get in touch with Kayla as it has to go through her website:
Calling her is truly the best option. Kayla also recommends if you do a group massage to let her know 48 hours in advance, but if it’s just one or two people she does take last minute inquiries. Make sure to always call for the last-minute appointments.
Overall, I was super impressed with Kayla’s professionalism and knowledge. She is a sweet and health conscious woman with amazing talent. Be sure to give her a call the next time you feel a kink in your neck or if you simply want to treat yourself to one of the best massages you will ever have.
