30A Prime Interview with Brittanie Schell, Owner of 30A Olive Oil
Inlet Beach is a great place to live mainly because of its close proximity to the best of South Walton as well as Bay County. I’ve lived in Inlet Beach for about two years and frequent the 30Avenue shopping center quite often. However, I must admit that until our recent interview with Brittanie Schell, I had never been inside the 30A Olive Oil store. Many times while attending the Free Thursday night concerts at 30Avenue or while on my way to grab a burrito at Barbacoa, my intentions were to stop and have a look around but it just never happened. Naturally, when I was informed we were scheduled to do a piece on 30A Olive Oil I was extremely excited to finally learn about the store first hand.
It was a gorgeous fall day in Inlet Beach when I parked my car on the charming cobblestone streets found throughout the 30Avenue complex. Immediately upon entering 30A Olive Oil, I was greeted by Brittanie Schell, co-owner, and manager of the store. Her cheeriness and genuine smile truly made me feel valued and welcomed right from the start.
Only the Best of the Best Olive Oils
While our 30A Prime Productions cameraman Adam setup up his equipment and staged the scene for our video interview, I chatted on the side with Brittanie. She explained how they use many different olive oil suppliers from around the world to source their high-end products. That’s a rare thing in the Olive Oil retail space because it’s much easier to simply use one supplier. However, their passion for offering the best oils in the world at their Inlet Beach store pushes them to go above-and-beyond in terms of sourcing only the best products. For example, Brittanie and her family tried at least 6 different flavors of Basil olive oil before deciding on the one they now sell in their store.
Brittanie went on to explain how they keep their olive oils in special containers so that they do not oxidize. Keeping olive oil out of direct sunlight and at cooler temperatures is extremely important for the long-term preservation of the product. They have a huge selection of different flavored oils in their store with the most popular being the Tuscan Olive Oil. The Tuscan is a mixture of Italian and Mediterranean flavors and the wide range of dishes it pairs well with is a big reason why it is such a hit. The Tuscan oil is also great for bread dipping so much so that the awesome Italian restaurant next door, Amici 30A, put it on their tables.
The Mushroom and Sage Olive Oil is currently Brittanie’s favorite flavor as she likes to drizzle it on pasta dishes. The more we chatted, the more clear it became just how passionate she is about educating customers on the wonderful world of olive oils. They offer free samplings every day and Brittanie is always happy to answer questions and provide info on any item in the store as they sell much more than just olive oil…
30A Olive Oil is Much More than Just Olive Oils
In addition to a massive selection of the worlds’ best olive oils, you’ll find a large assortment of Sea Salts, Balsamics, Kitchen Accessories, Art, Gift Options, Rubs and more! Truffle Sea Salt is their best-selling flavor and Brittanie swears it’s amazing on popcorn. They also have a Black Pepper Sea Salt that many local restaurants use daily.
If you’re looking for gourmet cooking ingredients or for awesome Christmas gifts, wedding gifts, corporate gifts, birthday gifts or any type of gift, 30A Olive Oil is the place you need to go. They have prepackaged gift baskets but if you need something custom wrapped they are happy to do that as well. Gift baskets are available year-round and they are filled with flavored sea salts, soaps, olive oils, balsamics, dishes and other nifty kitchen items any person would love.
How Did 30A Olive Oil in Inlet Beach Become a Reality?
During the on-camera portion of our interview, Brittanie explained that 30A Olive Oil is a Family owned business. She is originally from upstate New York and her parents owned a gourmet cooking store there before moving to Florida’s Emerald Coast. Right next door to her parent’s store was a gourmet olive oil shop which sparked their interest. When Brittanie’s father was transferred to the Naval Base here in the Florida Panhandle, they collectively decided it was time to open their own olive oil store in Inlet Beach.
Events at 30A Olive Oil
Make sure you check out 30A Olive Oil’s Facebook Page to learn about upcoming events as they sometimes host Cooking Demos at the store. During a cooking demo, local chefs cook up 3-course meals for the people in attendance using 30A Olive Oil’s products. The purpose of the cooking demos is to demonstrate how different flavor olive oils and sea salts pair with different dishes. The events are always educational and a lot of fun so make sure to put the next one on your calendar.
I asked Brittanie to explain the strangest olive oil pairing recipe to date and she said, “Chocolate Balsamic, Black Pepper and Ice Cream.” The recipe was conceived during a cooking demo by Chef Tim Creehan, owner of Cuvee 30A located next door in the 30Avenue development. “Somehow though, the recipe goes together very well,” Brittanie said. She thinks it’s because of the creaminess and acidity of the balsamic. Personally, this recipe had me at Chocolate balsamic. Who could hate that?
Brittanie wants to encourage creativity in cooking and bring imagination back to the table. It’s always fun to experiment and try new recipes. When you use fine ingredients like the ones sold at 30A Olive Oil it takes cooking to a whole other level!
