Edward’s Rosemary Beach is a Top 30A Restaurant
Not too long ago, we had the opportunity to interview Kristy Johnston the General Manager at Edward’s Fine Food and Wine in Rosemary Beach. We’ve showcased a bunch of awesome South Walton businesses over the past 8 months and they have all been great. However, I was especially looking forward to this particular interview at Edward’s because it’s one of my favorite 30A restaurants.
We relocated to SoWal a few years ago and Edward’s was one of the first restaurants my wife and I went to celebrate our new start in Florida. Both of us were incredibly impressed with the food, wine and all around atmosphere so we’ve been back many times since.
In the interview, Kristy talks about how Edward’s is unique in that there are a number of different dining area options to choose from such as… You can sit out on the sidewalk and take in the Rosemary Beach buzz. You can dine in their courtyard and enjoy the live music. You can sit at the chefs counter and watch them prepare your meal. Or, you can dine inside for more of a formal setting as you’ll see in our Edward’s video at the top and bottom of this page.
Interview with Kristy Johnston GM of Edward’s Rosemary Beach
30A Prime: Thanks for taking time to speak with us today Kristy. Please tell us about how Edward’s was started here in Rosemary Beach, Florida.
Kristy: Ed Reese started Edward’s about 5 and a half years ago on a hope and a prayer. At the time, he was working in Alys Beach and he really wanted to make something out of this space in Rosemary Beach. He got lucky enough to get into this building and it really has evolved since then.
This past year we were bought by the Spell Restaurant Group and I could not be happier with this decision Ed has made. He’s left Edward’s in really great hands with the Spell Restaurant Group. We are still Edward’s, we are still living out Ed Reese’s name, and we’re really all still here having a good time.
30A Prime: Where exactly in Rosemary Beach, FL is Edward’s located?
Kristy: Edward’s is located downtown Rosemary Beach on the south side of 30A. We are right down, almost to the waterside. So if you travel straight down Main Street heading south just listen for the live music and look for our beautiful courtyard and that’s where we are located.
30A Prime: How would you describe the style of cuisine here at Edward’s?
Kristy: At Edward’s our style of cuisine is Southern Coastal. We involve a little bit of southern flair along with really great seafood. We do have a couple of entrees that are non-seafood as well for anyone that’s interested. Right now we have a beautiful Braised Pork Shank on the menu and a Steak Frites. So, really just about anyone can find something on the menu that they will enjoy.
30A Prime: Please tell us about the ingredients used to make up the dishes here at Edward’s in Rosemary Beach.
Kristy: We really believe in using very fresh products here at Edward’s. We get our fish fresh, local greens and other items like that. We try not to overwhelm our product with a lot of heavy sauces. Instead, we like to let the food speak for itself and we try to keep it as natural as possible while still remaining very elegant and delicious.
30A Prime: What are some of your favorite dishes?
Kristy: Some of my favorite dishes here at Edwards are… We have a Grilled Grouper which is phenomenal and right now we’re serving it with a light tomato vinaigrette. We always have some kind of Grouper on the menu with accommodations that represent the season. We also have a Capellini Pomodoro which is our vegetarian dish and you can top it off with things such as grilled shrimp or grilled scallops.
Then there is our Crab Cake… Everyone does crab cake around here I know… But Edward’s Crab Cake is really fantastic and is among the best in the area for sure. People come back time and time again to get the Edward’s Crab Cake and also our Classic Tuna Tartare.
30A Prime: What makes Edward’s Fine Food and Wine unique from other Rosemary Beach restaurants?
Kristy: Edward’s is different than other 30A restaurants for many reasons. To start, we have four unique dining areas people can choose from…
For example, you can sit at our chefs counter and watch all of the action there. You can sit out in the courtyard under the stars. You can sit on the sidewalk and people watch or inside if you’re looking for something more intimate. In our courtyard, we involve your senses with live music and you can also watch a little black and white movie on the wall…
So there’s always something to entertain you here at Edward’s.
30A Prime: Please tell us about Edward’s wine list.
Kristy: This past year, Edward’s wine list received a 2017 Wine Spectators Award for Excellence. I’m a second level certified sommelier so I put Edward’s wine list together. Right now, we have about 120 wine selections which is pretty big for this small of a restaurant.
It’s really a lot of fun looking through our wine list and we really pride ourselves in finding wines that are unique, wines that you can’t find in the grocery store. Wines that you can’t buy just anywhere. All of our wines are boutique and really something where you can find an adventure in every bottle.
So please come out and see us at Edward’s any night of the week, no reservations just come as you are. We’re located at 66 Main Street on the south side of 30A in Rosemary Beach, FL. Edward’s is right across the street from The Pearl hotel and when you hear the live music just come on in.
