This event looked really interesting to me so I thought I would post some info about it below:

The Rev. Emily Rose Proctor, part-time pastor at Red Bay Presbyterian Church and SoWal Community Chaplain in partnership with Caring and Sharing, will speak at the Emerald Coast Meditation Society June 15, 2017. Her Topic is “Poetry and Peacemaking.”

The free meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. with a 30-minute meditation at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 480 N. Co. Hwy. 393, Santa Rosa Beach, one-half mile north of Hwy 98. The ECMS is ecumenical and does not follow any religion.

Now is a time when the skills of peacemaking are more essential than ever” says Rev. Proctor, “within ourselves, in families, and in society at large.” Using sample poems, Rev. Proctor will lead a discussion which explores what poets can teach us about the art of peacemaking.

Rev. Emily Rose Proctor grew up in Dothan, AL, and graduated with a B.A. in English from Williams College in 2003, where she was awarded the Bullock Prize of the Academy of American Poets. In 2009, she received her Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary and has served churches in Mobile, AL, Baltimore, MD, and Jacksonville, FL. She lives in Santa Rosa Beach, FL, with her husband, Richard Gillespie Proctor, an Episcopal priest and drummer.

Her poetry has been published in The Christian Century, Slippery Elm Literary Journal, Presbyterians Today, Columbia Theological Seminary’s Journal for Preachers, and several online journals such as Rogue Homilies, Postcard Poems and Prose, Poetry Breakfast, Unbound and Fidelia’s Sisters. In 2016, she won the West Florida Literary Federation’s poetry contest, and one of her poems was nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

She co-hosts “Just Sayin’,” a monthly poetry open mic night at 30A Songwriter Radio Coffee and Music that is livestreamed and podcasted at www.30Asongwriterradio.com. Rev. Proctor can be reached at [email protected].

The evening will conclude with a short guided meditation. The ECMS meets on the first and third Thursday of every month except July and August. Anyone who needs meditation instruction should arrive by 6:15 p.m. For information contact Tracey Tapp, [email protected].
